Wild and Crazy Month!!

Well this month has been a roller coaster of events so now that I finally have a free moment to pause and ponder, you can all enjoy the picture yearbook of things that have been happening. Here they are in no particular order:
1. Bryant, fresh from the womb, suffered from a rather severe umbilical cord infection called oomphalitis that in the United States only happens in about .2-.5% of births and has about a 10% mortality rate if caught early and 80% mortality rate if the infection had spread to the surrounding skin. Scary! Luckily we did catch it early and after a week of daily visits to the doctors office for antibiotic injections and 10 days of oral antibiotics afterwards the little guy did pull through without any problems
2. We went to Palm Springs!! It was great to see everyone again and catch up. Brooke had fun trying to learn how to swim after realizing she couldn't float without arm floaties and Bryant got to be the hot potato as he was passed among dozens of anxious arms. It was just an all around good time.
3. While in California Bryant and Olivia were begging and pleading to go to Disneyland for the first time and after much begging and pleading on their part, Brooke finally agreed to come along and show them the ropes:-) A fun day was had by all cause let's face it: It's impossible to get TOO much of the Magic Kingdom and their churros!!
4.Upon returning home and bringing Bryant back in for a check-up at the doctor's office, we were informed that he is now suffering from RSV which a chest x-ray revealed has also given rise to a slight case of pneumonia. The boy just can't catch a break! So for the past week or so he has had to endure 2-3 breathing treatments every day from the infamous nebulizer which he has actually done remarkably well tolerating. The one thing I know about this kid is he is definitely not a complainer. He still only cries when he is hungry or dirty and if we didn't have a chest x-ray confirming it, it would actually be quite difficult to believe he is even sick.
Needless to say our life over the past month has had it's share of ups and downs, but what's life without a little adventure right?

He Pees like a Pro!!

So it's been awhile since our last post as we have been trying to get our life back into some sort of order, but now that I have a quick moment I thought I'd do an update and post some more pictures of our new addition. First, let me say that one lesson we've learned very quickly is that Bryant pees everywhere he can during a diaper change! Now you may think this is because of our relative inexperience with boys, but let me assure you that we do all we can to prevent it. The boy just has impeccable timing for turning on the faucet during his 2-3 second window of opportunity to exact maximum wettage and effect. Even during his circumcision he peed all over the doctor, which the doctor commented was probably the most pee he'd ever seen in all the circumcisions he had ever done. I think I'm even a tiny bit proud that he's able to do this on such a consistent basis. Needless to say we are continually adapting , and getting pretty good at rushing him to the bathtub after a diaper change.


But despite these adventures during his changing, Bryant still remains a very pleasant and good natured little guy. He still rarely cries (even though he has finally learned how to. It sounds like a little squawking bird) and is a fairly consistent sleeper usually sleeping about 3 1/2 hours at a time. He loves sleeping in his carseat and his swing and one of the fun extras we get when he sleeps is that he often smiles and laughs while he's dreaming, a couple times even letting out hearty chuckles. Brooke still loves to give him lots of hugs and kisses which he tolerates fairly well. Every now and then the ugly green head of jealousy will arise in big sister in the form of Brooke pinching his ear, nibbling on his toes, or even just conking him in the head, but most of the time she just wants to love him.


Anyway, we're loving our new life with little Bryant and here are some more pictures to enjoy!

We're home!!!

After 4 days in the hospital, Shan and Bryant have finally come home and we're now here adjusting to life with 2 kids in the house: one who doesn't move and the other who doesn't stop moving:-) But Brooke is adjusting fabulously to having her little brother around and is always very careful to be very soft and gentle with her new little brother. As for Shan and I, we're just glad we can all be home together again as it's no fun when you have to leave half of your family at the hospital every night. Anyway, here are some more pics and videos to enjoy!

Day 1...and counting

So day 1 of having a new baby is over and life is great!! It's a lot of fun watching little Bryant trying to take everything in from his new environment and he's gotten lots of good attention and affection from all his fans including Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, and of course his cute little sister Brooke who loves to hold her little brother and give him kisses on his head.

The funny thing we've found out so far is that Bryant is not a big crier. We're not quite sure if it's because he's just a mellow fellow or if he just hasn't figured out how to use his vocal cords yet, but it's very interesting jumping from a child like Brooke (who has always been very vocal) to a little guy who just doesn't have much to say. Of course this all may change tomorrow and he might be the biggest crier we have, but for now he is continuing as the strong silent type.

He's finally here!

Not much time and I'm dog tired as is this little fella and his Mommy, but I thought I'd at least get out this one picture so you could all see the newest addition to our family. He was born at 9:31 pm on Monday, April 21st after a long and arduous day of labor that included 2 hours of pushing which actually just turned into needing a C-section as little Bryant didn't want to position his head the way he needed to to come out. But he's out and adorable and worth all the trouble. More to come later!
